The Egyptian Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday that eight terrorists were killed in a shootout with police in a desert region in al-Arish.
It said in a statement the national security sector tracked down a number of terrorists involved in the execution of several terror attacks in northern Sinai.
It monitored their efforts to recruit new members, revealing that they had received training on the use of weapons and production of explosives.
After a surveillance operation, the security forces raided the terrorists’ hideout and a shootout ensued.
Eight terrorists were killed in the clashes. Their identities are still being determined.
Five automatic rifles, two explosive devices and ammunition were found in the terrorists’ possession, said the Interior Ministry.
